Ingredients
1 tsp matcha powder 50ml hot water (not boiling) 200ml Overherd oat milk Ice cubes Flavour syrup, to taste (optional)Method
1 Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl or cup to remove any lumps.
2 Pour 50ml of hot (not boiling) water over the matcha and whisk vigorously for around 2 minutes until completely smooth with no clumps.
3 Make up your Overherd oat milk by mixing the powder with water as directed, then fill your glass with ice cubes.
4 Pour the oat milk over the ice, then slowly pour the whisked matcha on top.
5 Add a splash of coffee syrup if you'd like it sweeter or want an extra flavour layer. Stir gently and drink immediately.
Tips
Water temperature Around 70 to 80°C is ideal. Boiling water can make matcha taste bitter. Let the kettle sit for a minute or two first.
No whisk? A small milk frother works just as well. You can also shake the matcha and water in a jar with a lid. Messy, but effective.
Make it sweeter Coffee syrup blends in well, but a little honey or simple syrup works too. Stir it into the matcha paste before adding ice.
FAQ
Can you make an iced matcha latte with oat milk powder? Yes and it's one of the easier ways to do it. Overherd powder mixes directly into the glass, so there's no open carton to deal with and no measuring out more than you need. Make up exactly 200ml, pour over ice, and you're done.
Why does my matcha taste bitter? Usually the water temperature. Boiling water draws out the bitter compounds in matcha. Aim for around 70 to 80°C instead. Sifting the powder before whisking also helps it dissolve evenly, which improves the flavour.
Do I need a matcha whisk? It helps, but it's not essential. A small electric milk frother does the job well. If you don't have either, add the matcha and hot water to a jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
