Ingredients

For the matcha latte powder 200g Overherd oat milk powder 55g coconut sugar 12g matcha powder (ceremonial grade for the best flavour) Per serving 3 tbsp matcha latte powder (approx. 30g) 170 - 200ml hot water

Method

Make the powder
1 Add all powder ingredients to a bowl and mix thoroughly until fully combined.
2 Transfer to a jar with a lid. Keeps for up to 9 months in a cool, dry place.
Hot matcha latte
3 Add 3 tablespoons (approx. 30g) of matcha latte powder to a mug.
4 Add 170–200ml of hot water and mix using a milk frother until smooth and frothy. Serve immediately.
Iced matcha latte
5 Mix 3 tablespoons of matcha latte powder with 170 - 200ml of hot water using a frother until fully dissolved.
6 Add a generous handful of ice cubes, give it time to cool, and serve.
Why Overherd works here Most matcha latte recipes need you to whisk the matcha separately, heat the oat milk, then combine. Three steps, two pans, a carton to finish. Building Overherd powder directly into the mix means the oat milk is already in the jar. Hot water in, frother out, done. The powder keeps for months which means a proper matcha latte is always 2 minutes away, whether you want it hot or iced.

Tips

Use a frother Matcha can clump if not properly mixed. A handheld electric frother is the most reliable way to get a smooth, lump-free result. Whisk vigorously for at least 30 seconds if you don't have one.
Use ceremonial grade matcha Ceremonial grade matcha is smoother, less bitter, and noticeably more vibrant in colour than culinary grade. Worth the upgrade for a drink recipe where matcha is the star.
Don't use boiling water Water that's too hot makes matcha taste bitter. Let it sit for a minute after boiling. Around 70 - 80°C is ideal.

FAQ

Can you make a matcha latte with oat milk powder? Yes and it's the easiest way to do it. Adding Overherd oat milk powder directly to the matcha mix means the oat milk is already in the jar. No heating milk separately, no carton to open. Just hot water, a frother, and 2 minutes.
What does a matcha latte taste like? Earth, grassy, and slightly sweet, complemented by a smooth creaminess from the oat milk. It's less bitter than straight matcha tea and lighter than coffee. The coconut sugar adds a mild caramel note that balances the matcha without masking it.
How long does the matcha latte powder keep? Stored in an airtight jar in a cool, dry place, the powder keeps for up to 9 months. Store in an opaque container to avoid the matcha oxidising and losing quality over time.

Serving suggestions

01 Morning coffee alternative Matcha contains caffeine but releases it more slowly than coffee. The sensible option. Probably.
02 Gifting Jar it up with a label and serving instructions. A good gift for anyone who's slightly too interested in their morning wellness routine.
03 Overherd ice cubesFreeze Overherd oat milk into ice cubes and use instead of regular ice, so it slowly melts into the drink rather than diluting it.

Variations

Stronger matcha Increase matcha to 16g across the batch for a more intense, earthier flavour. Good if you find the standard version too mild or too sweet.
Less sweet Reduce coconut sugar to 35g across the batch. The matcha flavour comes through more clearly. Better for ceremonial grade matcha where you really want to champion the taste of the tea.
Vanilla matcha latte Add ½ tsp vanilla powder to the batch mix. Softens the grassy edge of the matcha and makes it taste more like a coffee shop order.
Dirty matcha Serve with a neat shot of espresso for coffee-matcha combination. An unusual pairing that is extremely popular in the States. DOUBLE CAFFEINE!
