All the ways you can use Overherd
Overherd oat milk powder is incredibly versatile and can be used in almost anything from hot drinks to pancakes to soups.
In short, you can use Overherd for anything and everything you’d normally use dairy or plant-based milk for.
Below, we've provided some inspiration, top tips, and quick recipes to help you get the most out of Overherd.
Hot drinks
Simply pour ready-made Overherd oat milk into your tea, coffee or hot chocolate, and stir well.
Alternatively, you can stir Overherd oat milk powder directly into your hot drink to use it as a vegan creamer.
Although not specifically designed as a barista oat milk, you can also try frothing and steaming Overherd oat milk for use in hot drinks.
Top tip: Adjust the ratio of Overherd oat milk powder to water to achieve your desired level of creaminess.
Breakfasts
Overnight oats
Overnight oats are a healthy and delicious breakfast that will set you up for the day.
Simply add ready-made Overherd oat milk to your oats, stir, add your toppings, and refrigerate.
Or if you prefer, just scoop Overherd oat milk powder straight in with oats and water, stir, add your toppings and refrigerate.
Top tip: adjust the amount of Overherd in your oats until you find your perfect level of creaminess.
Cereal
Are you a serial consumer of cereal? Good, because Overherd works a dream alongside any cereal.
Pour ready-made Overherd oat milk over your favorite cereal and enjoy.
We recommend refrigerating your oat milk first for the full experience.
Top tip: if you are short on time, mix your Overherd in a bottle with some ice cubes to make it nice and cool.
Porridge
Can you think of a better combination than oats soaked in oat milk? We doubt it!
Just add some ready-made Overherd oat milk to your oats before cooking.
Or if you prefer, you can scoop Overherd oat milk powder straight into your oats, add water and stir together before cooking.
Top tip: try adding more or less Overherd to your oats until you find your ideal creaminess.
Chia pudding
Chia pudding is a healthy breakfast choice packed full of omega-3.
Just add some ready-made Overherd oat milk to your chia seeds, stir, add your toppings and pop in the fridge.
Or if you prefer, just scoop some Overherd oat milk powder straight in with the seeds, add water and stir.
Top tip: do a quick Google search and you’ll find endless chia pudding recipes and topping ideas.
Pancakes
Pancakes aren’t just for pancake day and Overherd works perfectly as a replacement for dairy or plant-based milk.
Simply add ready-made Overherd oat milk to the recipe and mix it all together.
Top tip: if you are in a hurry you can add Overherd straight to the recipe as a powder, add water and mix thoroughly.
Cold drinks
Smoothies
Overherd adds a lovely creaminess to smoothies and also provides a dose of healthy fats, prebiotic fibre and beta glucans.
Simply add ready-made Overherd oat milk to your other smoothie ingredients before blending.
Or if you prefer you can scoop Overherd oat milk powder straight in with your ingredients, add water and blend (no need to pre-mix).
Top tip: If you prefer a creamier smoothie, try adding slightly more Overherd.
Milkshakes
Overherd has a unique creaminess and natural sweetness which works great in milkshakes of all kinds.
Just add ready-made Overherd oat milk to your milkshake recipe as a replacement for dairy or plant-based milk and blend.
Top tip: just like with smoothies, if you prefer a creamier drink, try adding more Overherd.
Protein shakes
Overherd contains healthy fats from coconut which provide long lasting energy to keep you going post workout.
Simply add ready-made Overherd oat milk to your protein powder, shake and enjoy.
Or if you are in a hurry, just scoop some Overherd oat milk powder straight into your protein powder, add water and shake. Mixing with a few ice cubes is recommended for a refreshingly cold shake.
Top tip: if you REALLY want to save time, you can add Overherd oat milk powder directly into your protein powder container and mix together thoroughly to make your own instant protein powder mix. Start with a ratio of 60:40 Overherd to protein powder.
Kefir
We haven’t experimented a huge amount with kefir, but some of our customers have had success making their own kefir using Overherd and kefir starter cultures.
Cooking
Overherd is ideal for use in cooking of all kinds. In fact any recipe which calls for dairy or plant-based milk, can be substituted with Overherd.
You can even add Overherd into recipes just to add a bit of creaminess, especially for things like sauces and soups.
We won’t list EVERY recipe possible with Overherd, as that would take all day, but here’s some inspiration to get you started.
- Homemade chocolate - super easy with just a handful of ingredients. Find the full recipe here.
- Ice cream - with Overherd oat milk you can make your own plant-based ice cream by using oat milk as a substitute for dairy milk. Try adding extra coconut oil for a super creamy ice cream.
- Baking - you can use Overherd in a wide range of baking from cakes to brownies to cookies.
- Condensed milk - make your own plant-based condensed milk by mixing together 150g of Overherd and 150g of granulated sugar. Stir the mix into 120ml of boiling water. Finally add 2 tbsp of coconut oil and give it a final stir and you have yourself condensed milk.
- Plus loads more like rice pudding, scrambled eggs / tofu, Yorkshire puddings, curry, custard, bechamel sauce etc.
Instant drink powders
Lots of our wonderful customers use Overherd to craft their own delicious instant drink powders.
Overherd provides the base and most require only a handful of other ingredients.
Instant drink powders can be stored in a jar for up to 12 months and just need to be stirred into boiling water.
Buying instant drink powders can be expensive but using Overherd, you can make your own!
The mini recipes below provide an outline of ingredients, but feel free to tweak to your own taste.
Instant hot chocolate powder
A crowd favourite made from a blend of creamy and chocolatey ingredients. Simply mix together...
- 125g Overherd oat milk powder
- 80g cocoa powder
- 40g grated dark chocolate
- 45g coconut sugar (or caster)

Keep a jar at home for on-demand lattes or take on your next camping trip. Simply mix together...
- 200g Overherd oat milk powder
- 50g coconut sugar (or caster)
- 8 tsp instant coffee
To serve add 35g of your latte mix to 200ml of boiling water and stir / froth.
Instant chai latte powder
This one is full of warming spices and makes whipping up a chai no problem at all. Simply mix together...
- 160g Overherd oat milk powder
- 45g coconut sugar (or caster)
- 3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
